The Senior Citizens' Carnival, traditionally known as the Third Age Carnival, is one of the most endearing and participatory events in the city's carnival program. This activity is organized by the Department of Social Services in collaboration with the Carnival Federation, with the aim of promoting the participation of senior citizens in the cultural and festive life of the municipality.
This event brings together senior citizens' associations and groups from across the city, who spend months enthusiastically preparing their carnival performances. Each group creates its own costumes, choreography, and dances, demonstrating creativity, teamwork, and a vibrant festive spirit.
Throughout the year, each carnival group chooses its queen, who later participates in a joint event to select the Queen of the Senior Carnival. This moment becomes one of the most anticipated and emotional moments of the day.
Furthermore, the participating groups are actively involved in the main events of the Carnival. The adult troupes participate in the grand parade. They also have the honor of leading the awards ceremony parade, accompanying the festival's representative figures: the Carnival Queen and King, along with the symbolic characters of Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma.
